Models with 6 to 12.5 kWh battery packs weigh about 100 to 150 kg for this component; choices with more excellent range, however, have a battery weight of about 380 to 550 kg with a 60 to 100 kWh energy capacity.
A Tesla Model S with an 85 kWh battery, for example, owes 544 kg of its weight to the lithium-ion battery; a Renault Zoe, on the other hand, owes 290 kilograms.
This specific type is also odd because the same Renault Zoe, which has a 41 kWh battery, weighs 305 kg. It delivers a much bigger battery capacity and more autonomy for just 15 kilograms.
For manufacturers, this information—the weight of the battery in electric vehicles—is crucial. The range is more extensive the lower the overall weight is.
This factor, like aerodynamics, is given as much consideration as possible when it comes to electric cars.
